2017 marks Canada’s 150th birthday. Parks Canada is giving away annual passes. Hundreds of federal grants have been given out, both for celebrations and a variety of other projects. It’s quite the hoopla.
Tiffany and I have decided to make our travels this year all about exploring Canada, and have challenged ourselves to spend 150 days outside this year. This can be anything from a skate at the outdoor rink after work, to a long day hike, to a weekend camping trip. And, let’s be honest, the occasional Pokemon hunting.
We have fallen behind because I smashed my head and was cursed with a concussion on day 10, but I am optimistic that we can catch back up. Here is what we have managed so far:
- Jan. 1: Skating at Bowness Park
- Jan. 3: Cross-Country Skiing at Shaganappi Point
- Jan. 4: Zoolights at the Calgary Zoo
- Jan. 14: Snowboarding at Nakiska
- Jan. 15: Cross-Country Skiing at Shaganappi Point
- Jan. 21: Women’s March
- Jan. 22: Walk to Coffee Shop on 17th Ave.
- Jan. 25: Walk Home from Work
- Jan. 29: Snowboarding at Nakiska
(Pause for concussion recovery) - Feb. 18: Riding the Gondola at Kicking Horse
- Feb. 19: Snowshoeing at Kicking Horse
- Feb. 25: Visiting the Okotoks Erratic aka Big Rock
- Mar. 3: Skating at Bowness Park
That puts us at 13 days so far. The plan for getting back on track is to reach 25 by the end of March and 40 by the end of April. I will give an updated list at the end of April to let you know where we are at.
Let me know in the comments if there is anything in or near Calgary that MUST be on our list for 2017.

It is a must you find some Bison at Elk Island National park. It couples nicely with a trip to the water park .. Just saying..
That sounds awesome, I wonder if we could still get a campsite for one of the summer long weekends. As always, I am on the fence about the water park 😉
